About Us
A Studio Built Around Careful Study
Stardrift Labs is a small study studio in Kuala Lumpur. We design online programmes for people who want to understand language models and generative AI from the inside out.

How Stardrift Labs Came to Be
Stardrift Labs began in 2022 when a small group of practitioners working in data and software felt there was a gap in the Malaysian market for structured, substantive study of language model tools. Most available materials were either surface-level introductions or highly academic papers with little practical grounding.
We spent the better part of a year designing a curriculum that combined recorded lectures with live discussion and hands-on practice notebooks — a format we felt matched how working adults actually learn. The first cohort ran in late 2022 with twelve participants. Their feedback shaped the structure that has been refined and extended since.
Today, Stardrift Labs offers three pathways: a nine-week entry course, a twelve-week practitioner track, and a twelve-month year programme with dedicated mentor support. All three share the same design principle — content grounded in publicly available models, projects that belong to the participant, and a pace that respects a full-time working schedule.
Our Mission
What We Are Working Toward
Our mission is straightforward: to make rigorous, practical study of language model technology accessible to working professionals in Malaysia and the wider region. We are not trying to produce overnight experts. We are trying to help people build a real working understanding of tools that are reshaping the landscape of software and information work.
We believe that understanding comes from practice, and that practice requires good materials, clear feedback, and enough time. Our programmes are built around those three elements.

The People
Who Runs Stardrift Labs
A small core team of practitioners with backgrounds in software engineering, data science, and adult education design.
Nadia Rahman
Programme Director
Nadia oversees curriculum design and cohort management. Her background spans natural language processing research and enterprise data engineering in Kuala Lumpur and Singapore.
Arjun Kumar
Lead Mentor — Practitioner Track
Arjun leads the practitioner track and year programme mentoring. He previously worked on production ML systems at a fintech and brings a grounded engineering perspective to the curriculum.
Siew Lin
Study Design & Participant Support
Siew Lin manages the participant experience from enrolment through completion. Her background is in adult learning design and she ensures study materials are clear, sequenced, and useful.
Standards
How We Approach Quality
Every programme at Stardrift Labs is built around a set of operational standards that define how we design, deliver, and improve our study offerings.
Curriculum Review Cycle
Each programme is reviewed and updated between cohorts. Participants in earlier cohorts contribute feedback that shapes subsequent versions of the materials.
Data Handling Practices
Participant data is collected only for programme operation. We do not share it with third parties for commercial purposes and retain it only for the duration required by our privacy policy.
Live Session Standards
Live cohort sessions follow a prepared agenda distributed in advance. Recordings are available to participants who cannot attend at the scheduled time.
Project Integrity
Final projects are the participant's own work. Mentors provide review and written feedback but do not author or co-author project outputs on behalf of participants.
Transparent Pricing
Programme fees are stated in Malaysian Ringgit before enrolment. There are no hidden additions. Payment terms for the year programme are discussed and documented at enrolment.
Responsive Support
Enquiries and participant questions are responded to within one business day. Support is available by email and phone during office hours from our Kuala Lumpur base.
Values & Expertise
What We Stand For
Publicly Available Models
All study in our programmes is conducted with publicly available language model infrastructure. We do not require participants to pay for proprietary tools or sign up to closed platforms as a condition of study. This is a deliberate choice: we believe the foundations of language model work are well-served by open infrastructure, and that working with it builds a more durable understanding than following a single vendor's workflow.
Education Without Credential Inflation
We provide course completion records to participants who finish the required work. These are educational records, not accredited qualifications. We are clear about this distinction because we think honesty about what a record represents matters more than marketing it beyond its actual weight. The value of completing a programme here is in the knowledge and practice notebooks you accumulate, not in the document we provide.
Designed for Malaysia
Stardrift Labs is based in Kuala Lumpur and our programmes are priced, scheduled, and structured with the Malaysian professional context in mind. Live session times are set for participants in GMT+8. Fees are quoted in Ringgit. We are familiar with the work environments, internet infrastructure, and professional backgrounds common in Malaysia's tech and finance sectors, and we design for that context rather than importing a curriculum designed elsewhere.
Honest About Scope
Language model tools are useful for a wide range of tasks, but they have well-documented limitations. Our curriculum includes direct study of those limitations — failure modes, evaluation challenges, and the conditions under which model outputs are not reliable. We believe a practitioner who understands where tools fall short is more useful than one who has only seen them succeed.
